On 25th of May 2004
I got this letter from The International Committee:
You have been
nominated
by The International Committee
to participate in
the Fifth Annual
International Biennial of
Contemporary Art
3/11 December 2005 in Fortezza da Basso
in Florence,
Italy.
I was in Florence 2 years ago.
I have not yet made the paintings that was inspired from this
investigation of classic Italy.
The skyline of Florence is my favorite motif.
With the dome of Santa Maria del Fiore.
Another favorite motif is the bridge.
Over the river Arno.
Ponte Vecchio.
It was at Piazzale Degli Uffizi I queued up - for hours - for entering
the Gallery of Uffizi.
The Medici collection.
Giotto
Martini
Uccello
Masolinos
Piero della Francesca
Botticelli
Leonardo da Vinci
Mantegna
Michelangelo
Rafael
Rubens
Van Dyck
Rembrandt
We passed by Fortezza da Basso a couple of times.
The Biennale
artists coming from all over the world,
despite their
differences of language and faith,
found a common
language in art to communicate their cultural values.
For this reason,
in 2001 The United Nations
recognized the
Florence Biennale as an official partner in the program
“Dialogue Among
Nations”.
In this
difficult times for humanity, art expresses a hope:
"... opens new
doors for learning, understanding, and peace among people and nations.”
Patrons of
The Fifth
International Biennial
of Contemporary Art
in Florence
Presidente della Republica
Ministero degli Affari Esteri
United Nations
Regione Toscana
Provincia di Firenze
