The Windmill
Ballet
Ballet is when people dance.
Even on the tiptoe.
Wearing body stockings.
In New York City there is a
famous ballet company called the New York City Ballet.
In Boston
you have the Boston Ballet.
In Moscow you have the
Bolshoi Ballet
and the Bolshoi Theatre.
A windmill has a light and unstrained movement.
A windmill
has
a natural and effortless grace.
Windmills perform a ballet.
In
Denmark you have the Windmill
Ballet
and the Windmill Theatre.
The stars of the Windmill Ballet are
Millie M. Miller and Blade B. Bladesdale.
Just call them Millie and Blade.
Millie practicis a lot.
It is a hard work to become a skillful dancer.
Blade and Millie often practice together.
You see, all what the ballet people are doing
is called something in French.
Ballet was invented in France.
When Blade and
Millie fly
in the air like this
it is called grand jeté.
Grand jaté means a large jump.
Blade practices a lot, too.
He sure is skillful.
Blade
and Millie are in the front
when they dance together with
all the other dancers at the Windmill Theatre.
Then they are called ensemble dancers.
They sure
are skillful all of them.
Tonight they perform a ballet at the Windmill Theatre.
There is an appreciative audience in the Windmill Theatre - this night
too.
Every night the Windmill Theatre is fully booked.
The audience is happy.
Applauding.
Cheering.
Shouting.
Whistling.
An ever ongoing alternation between
intense silence
and
noisy response
from the audience.
The success of a ballet performance depends on
the interaction between the dancers and the audience.
Over the years - more than 20 years
management of the ballet and the
dancers have achieved
a deep insight in the wishes and needs of the
audience.
Management is the nice Mr. Jacob and his nice son Mr. Jacob Jr.
Management knows about how to run a ballet.
Mr. Jacob's often says to his dancers
become
skillful
be tolerent, be reliable
be concerned about the environment,
never spit out your bubblegum on the floor
put all garbage in the trash cans.
And Mr. Jacob says, that one of the most important things
is that a ballet renews itself.
Tonight
the dancers show something quite new.
Something never shown by any other ballet company
in the world.
Sur la tête, pied au pied, pied à la main, main à
la main.
That's of course in French.
It means on your head, foot towards foot, foot in hand, hand in hand.
It is very difficult to perform.
But the skilled Windmill ballet ensamble succeeds every night.

On their way out of the Windmill Theatre
one in the audience said:
We need not go to
New York City, Boston or Moscow to enjoy
world class ballet.
We have the Windmill Ballet
and the Windmill Theatre.
