Fairy Tale
Theater
Kids' Fairy Tale Factory
by
Asbjorn Lonvig
The Fairy Tale Theater is a Kids'
Fairy Tale Factory.
The purpose is to prompt kids to tell fairy tales.
To urge kids to tell fairy tales of their own.
It is a puppet theater, too.
A very simple puppet theater.
The main puppets are cardboard fairy tale characters from Asbjorn
Lonvig's fairy tales - see children's books online.

Here the
front of the puppet theater is decorated with dots from Tall-Charlie,
who is a giraffe.
So is the stage.

You can turn the front around and this side is decorated with stripes
from the Prison Horse.
If you turn the
stage upside down...
If you place the front on a high table and remove the stage you can
as well use this Fairy Tale Theater for
finger puppets and hand puppets.
Why prompt kids to
tell fairy tales?
Grown ups believe
they are good at fairy tales.
They sure are, but kids are better.
Telling fairy tales develop kids' imagination.
Telling fairy tales develop kids' ability to communicate.
Telling fairy tales develop......
Make your own Fairy Tale Theater
and download Asbjorn Lonvig
puppets:
The front and the stage are cut out of a 3 mm (0.12") plate of
cardboard, size 75 x 66,1 cm (29.5 x
26.0").
The stage (50 x 50 cm - 19.7 x 19.7") is the hole in the front.
Cut the hole and leave 12,5 cm (4.9") to the upper, the left and
the right front pieces.
Leave 3,6 cm (1.4") to the lower front piece.
Two red feet 3,3 x 3,3 x 15 cm (1.3 x 1.3 x 5.9") balance the
front.
Cut two small pieces
out of the cardboard - 3,3 x 1,8 cm (1.3 x 0.7") - like
this:

Saw a groove of a
little less than 3 mm (0.12") in the middle of the
feet - depth 1,8 cm (0.7") - like this:

Assemble the front
and the two feet with glue.
Two sticks 3,3 x 3,3 x 45 cm (1.3 x 1.3 x 17.7") is placed
underneath the stage.
Paint everything in whatever color you like.
That's all folks!
Now download the fairy tale puppets.
Here - in a
Word Document in coulors.
Here - in
another Word Document if you want to color them yourself.
(send an e-mail if you want more
fairy tale
puppets for download).
Print them.
Place them on cardboard and glue.
Cut them out and leave a foot of cardboard - like this:

Saw out small bricks of wood (1,5 x 2,5 x 5 cm - 0.6 x 1 x 2")
and saw a tiny groove for the cardboard
foot - like
this:
See some
of the puppets:

Bernhard
Sleep-Sheep
Tall-Charlie
Prison-Horse
Belinda
Mr. Tiger
Penguin Blue
All my
fairy tale
characters (see children's
books online) are potetial fairy
tale puppets.
Why not
ask your granddads to help you build the front, the feet and the stage?
(In stead
of sawing out small bricks of wood you might use wooden grill sticks,
which you fasten on the back of the puppets using strong tape.)
And...
Now you are ready for fairy tales...
(See Fairy Tale Factory - a
TV Concept??)
Sincerely
yours,
Asbjorn
